What does an NDIS support coordinator do?
A support coordinator helps you understand your plan, find and compare providers, set up service agreements, coordinate several providers so they work together, solve problems when a support breaks down, and build your ability to manage your own supports. They do not pay invoices (that is a plan manager) and they are not funded by the NDIA directly (that is a local area coordinator).
How much do NDIS support coordinators get paid per hour?
Under the 2026-27 (from 1 July 2026) price limits, Support Connection (level 1) is $80.06 an hour, Coordination of Supports (level 2) is $100.14 and Specialist Support Coordination (level 3) is $190.54. Providers can charge less but not more if you are agency- or plan-managed. The limits have been unchanged since 2023-24.
Is the NDIS getting rid of support coordination?
Not as at August 2026. The 2023 NDIS Review recommended replacing support coordinators and local area coordinators with a single "navigator" role, but that recommendation has not been legislated and the NDIA is still funding support coordination in plans where it is reasonable and necessary.
Is support coordination included in every NDIS plan?
No. It is funded only when the NDIA includes it in your plan under the Capacity Building - Support Coordination budget, usually because your situation is complex. If it is not in your plan, ask for it at your plan review and explain why you need help to implement your supports.
What is the difference between support coordination and plan management?
Plan management handles the financial side: paying provider invoices, checking price limits and tracking your budget. Support coordination handles the services: choosing providers, setting up supports and solving problems. Many participants have both, funded from separate budget lines.
Do I need a registered provider for support coordination?
Agency-managed participants must use an NDIS registered provider. Plan-managed and self-managed participants can use a registered or an unregistered support coordinator.
