Frequently asked questions
What types of aged care services are available in Australia?
Aged care services in Australia include the Support at Home program (which replaced Home Care Packages on 1 November 2025) for in-home care, the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) for entry-level support, residential aged care (nursing homes), the Restorative Care and End-of-Life pathways, and respite care for carers.
How do I access government-funded aged care?
To access government-funded aged care, you first need an assessment. Contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or apply at myagedcare.gov.au to arrange an aged care needs assessment. A single national assessment now covers in-home care, short-term pathways and residential care, and determines your eligibility and level of support.
What is the Support at Home program?
Support at Home is the government-funded program that helps older Australians live independently at home. It replaced Home Care Packages on 1 November 2025 and has eight funding classifications, from about $11,000 to $80,000 a year, based on your assessed needs. You choose a registered provider to deliver your services. People who had a Home Care Package were moved across automatically.
Are the aged care providers on this site approved?
Yes. All aged care providers listed on AusCareGuide are sourced from the official MyAgedCare government register and are approved by the Australian Government to deliver aged care services.
