How does plan management work in the NDIS?
Your providers send their invoices to your plan manager, who checks them against the NDIS price limits, the supports list and your plan budgets, claims the money from the NDIA and pays the provider. You receive statements showing what has been spent and what remains in each budget.
How much do NDIS plan managers cost?
The NDIA pays the plan manager a monthly fee capped at $104.45 in 2026-27 (from 1 July 2026), from a dedicated Improved Life Choices budget added to your plan. It does not reduce your other supports and there is no longer a set-up fee. You pay nothing out of pocket.
What is the best NDIS plan manager?
The fee is fixed, so the differences are service: speed of paying providers (two to three business days is good), real-time budget visibility through an app or portal, whether invoices are checked against the NDIS supports list, and whether you can reach a person. Compare two or three from the directory on those points.
How do I manage my own NDIS plan?
Ask to be self-managed at planning or review. You then receive funds, pay providers yourself, keep invoices and records for five years, and can use any provider. It gives the most flexibility and the most administration. Many people self-manage one budget and plan-manage the rest.
Can I use unregistered providers if I am plan-managed?
Yes. Plan-managed participants can use both NDIS registered and unregistered providers, as long as providers charge no more than the NDIS price limits. Agency-managed participants can only use registered providers.
What is the difference between plan management and support coordination?
Plan management handles the money: invoices, budgets and statements. Support coordination handles the services: finding providers and coordinating supports. They are funded from separate budget lines and many participants have both.
