What types of supports are not covered by the NDIS?
Since October 2024 funding can only be used for items on the NDIS supports list. Medical treatment and services covered by Medicare, standard psychology under a mental health care plan, and therapies without evidence of effectiveness for disability are not NDIS supports. Some complementary therapies, including myotherapy in most cases, fall into that group.

Which NDIS budget pays for therapy?
Therapeutic supports are funded from the Capacity Building - Improved Daily Living budget, which is separate from Core Supports. Travel, report writing and therapy assistants come from the same budget.
Can therapists charge for travel under the NDIS?
Yes, if it is in your service agreement. Since 1 July 2025 travel time for therapy supports is capped at 50% of the hourly price limit, with limits of 30 minutes each way in metropolitan areas and 60 minutes in regional areas. Telehealth avoids travel charges.
Do I need a registered provider for therapy?
Agency-managed participants must use an NDIS registered provider. Plan-managed and self-managed participants can use registered or unregistered therapists.
